Holy Week is the last week of Lent, when we follow Jesus from Palm Sunday, the Sunday of the Passion, to his death on Good Friday in preparation for his rising from the dead on Easter Sunday.

Accompanied by his disciples, Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a colt, while crowds of people covered the streets ahead of him with their cloaks and with palm branches.

Service at 6:30 PM

The name Tenebrae is from the Latin word for “darkness” or “shadows.” This service of darkness commemorates the suffering and death of Christ. The liturgy is characterized by the gradual extinguishing of candles and other lights until only a single candle, considered a symbol of our Lord remains.

Service at 6:30 PM

After washing the feet of the disciples, Jesus celebrated the Feast of the Passover, instituting the Sacrament of Holy Communion. This service commemorates that occasion. Immediately following the service, the altar is stripped and all decorations are veiled and removed from the church to represent the arrest of Jesus and the beginning of his trial, Passion, death and resurrection.

Service at 12:00 Noon

Jesus was taken into Roman courts before Pontius Pilate and Herod Antipas, who sent him back to the Jewish court. Roman soldiers took him to Golgotha, the place of the skull, where he was crucified. This service commemorates the last seven statements made by Jesus Christ during his last hours on the cross

Prayer Service at 10:00 AM

Jesus is in the tomb. Holy Saturday is the final day of Lent and Holy Week. Jesus’ body lay in the tomb where it is guarded by Roman soldiers throughout Saturday

Sunday, April 16, 2017
Service at 6:30 AM

This is the first service of Easter. It is celebrated at a convenient time between sunset on Holy Saturday and sunrise on Easter Morning. The Paschal Candle is lit and leads the people into the dark church.

Service at 10:00 AM

An angel met Mary Magdalene and “the other Mary” (perhaps Mary, the mother of James and John) at the tomb to tell them that Jesus was risen from the dead. This service celebrates the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, and is the culmination of forty days of preparation throughout Lent.
